Perspectives and Challenges of Jobs To Be Done
Speaker
Speakers
Jim Kalbach (MURAL)
Tony Ulwick (Strategyn)

Jobs to Be Done is a business approach centered on turning customer insight into innovation. Though decades old, it has received significant attention recently.

In this live talk, Jim Kalbach, author of recently published The Jobs to Be Done Playbook, sits down with one of the pioneers of this theory, Tony Ulwick. Together they'll explore some of the core concepts of Jobs to Be Done, and discuss the present and future state of the field.

Maximizing the ROI of Design Thinking
Speaker
Speakers
Jeanne Liedtka (UVA Darden)
Mariano Suarez-Battan (MURAL)

Design thinking can seem easy, especially when done through fun workshops and hackathons. But the real transformational power of DT is in understanding it as a social technology—one that changes how imagination workers understand and solve problems.

Join Jeanne Liedtka as she digs into this truth in her upcoming book, The Innovator's Journey: How Design Shapes Us as We Shape Design. She discusses the importance of embedding design thinking into your day-to-day, and provides creative solutions for common dilemmas that innovators face.

Strategy Activation In The Modern World
Speaker
Speakers
Aric Wood (XPLANE)

80% of new strategies and major transformation initiatives fail. Why? We're using outdated, mechanistic "change management" techniques in modern, more organic organizations, and ignoring the fact that people are at the center of all we do. We need to adopt a new, people-centered and design-anchored approach to bring strategies to life, and make change stick in a more fluid and agile world.

This workshop will provide a simple and scalable framework to activate any change initiative, and include tools, templates, and exercises that each participant can immediately put to use in their workplace.

Participants will learn how and why change management is changing in the future, how to design a modern activation program that considers the world of remote work, and how to leverage employee engagement and co-creation to make change stick.

Culture Mapping: Moving Your Team's Culture From What It Was to What You Want It To Be
Speaker
Speakers
Greg Netzer (XPLANE)
Danoosh Kapadia (XPLANE)

We've all felt it: the deflated feeling at the end of your seventh Zoom call of the day. Your creativity is plummeting, and projects and co-workers that were once a delight now feel like a drag.

Yes, we continue to meet via videoconference and execute our projects through digital platforms. But how we collaborate, communicate, and co-create has forever changed. Many of the elements that made up a workplace culture vanished overnight—the office of the future is going to look a whole lot different than it did this past February. How can we bring the best of our organization’s culture into this new landscape of work? How can we bring back the joy of feeling connected to our co-workers and projects?

In this workshop, you’ll learn how to use a classic human-centered design framework to map the key elements of your organization’s culture and design how to evolve it in this new era of work. We’ll discuss the behaviors that support the best aspects of culture, investigate the elements of your organization that help support it, and prepare for how to evolve as thoughtfully and quickly as possible into your 'new normal'.

This workshop will also include example tools that you can put to work to evolve your own organizational culture right away.
You’ll learn how to:

•      Identify the critical behaviors that define your culture
•      Design the outcomes you want to achieve in the new working environment
•      Recognize the enablers that will help your organization evolve

Jobs to Be Done Templates
Speaker
Speakers
Jim Kalbach (MURAL)
Shayne Smart (Workshop.Design)

The concept of Jobs To Be Done (JTBD) provides a lens through which you can understand the people in the markets we serve. You’re probably familiar with the basic principle: people “hire” products and services to accomplish an objective.

By understanding the objective people strive to reach and the problems they need to solve, independent of solutions they choose, JTBD helps your team align your companies offering, to actual market needs.

Over the past few decades, companies have used the JTBD in a variety of ways – from informing company strategy to product development to marketing and sales. Various methods and techniques have emerged.

Based on Jim Kalbach’s book, this workshop design enables your team to practically apply the knowledge in the JTBD book.

Through a set of structured collaborative exercises, we give you the visual frameworks to guide discussion and align teams to reveal the jobs your customer needs done.

After reviewing some fundamentals of JTBD from Jim Kalbach’s book, we’ll do some practical exercises focused on finding Jobs and building a Job Map.

Crash Course - Everybody Can Draw This
Speaker
Speakers
Ole Qvist-Sørensen (Bigger Picture)
Loa Baastrup (Bigger Picture)

Why draw? Drawing is an age-old discipline that we all can learn and which the brain grasps faster than it does speech or text. When we draw, we create clarity. In a digital world, with digital tools like MURAL, hand-drawn visuals and templates stand out and foster greater levels of engagement.

Who can draw and where? Everyone can use drawing as an effective tool for communication. Technologies like MURAL has given us new means to draw, adjust, and share our drawings with one another.

When we draw together, we learn together — whether we're face to face or remote. The big picture comes into view and everyone can see themselves in it. Frontrunners such as LEGO, the UN, Maersk, IKEA, and the Red Cross have already successfully incorporated this way of working. How might you?

This 90 minute workshop helps you overcome any barriers you may have for using simple drawings at work.

Your workshop hosts are co-authors of the book Visual Collaboration and co-founders of Bigger Picture Academy.
