Getting the right sales template can sometimes feel like a scavenger hunt, which isn’t ideal when a customer conversation is about to start. For sales teams juggling discovery calls, account reviews, and deal strategy (all while racing against longer sales cycles), every minute spent hunting for the right starting point is a minute not spent with prospects.
That's why we've refined the Mural template experience from the ground up. You can browse role-based templates, preview before you commit, and get step-by-step video guidance.
What's new with Mural templates?
We've made a series of improvements to how you discover, evaluate, and start using templates in Mural. These updates span the dashboard, the template modal, and the templates themselves. It’s all designed to get you from idea to action faster.
The template cards now show both Add and Preview buttons, plus a short description when you hover. You can see what a template offers before adding it, so you can pick the right one without guesswork. Plus, view a completed template example to see what the final template could look like if you use it.
We've also added quick how-to videos to over 130 of our most popular templates. These videos provide expert advice and step-by-step guidance the moment you open a template preview, helping your team move with speed and confidence.
Why we improved and updated templates
Sales cycles have increased 22% over the past five years. Deals now involve six-10 people in the buying committee, each with their own perspective to address. And on average, it takes up to six months to a year to get a new seller productive.
We know Sales teams need expedited ways to find the right starting point for every customer conversation, without spending valuable prep time figuring out which template to use or how to use it. They want to scale proven methods across the team without reinventing the wheel for each call.
These updates put the right template in your hands quickly, with built-in guidance so anyone on your team can run an effective session.
What's new or improved
Here's what you'll notice across the template experience:
Browse by role. The template modal now lets you filter by role (including Sales) so you can quickly surface templates built for your work. No more scrolling through hundreds of options to find what fits your workflow.
Preview before you add. Template cards show Add and Preview buttons side by side. Hover to see a short description, or click Preview to explore the full template before committing.
Complete examples. View a finished template example to see what the final template could look like if you choose it.
How-to videos built in. Many templates now include quick-guide and expert-advice videos. These appear the moment you open a template preview, giving you just-in-time guidance to run better sessions.
Your templates, front and center. Templates you've created are now easier to find, edit, share, and manage. You can see and use your templates across workspaces without digging through folders.
Company collections expanded. Company collections can now hold up to 100 templates, with improved keyboard navigation.
The improved template experience helps you
Start customer sessions faster
No more prep-time paralysis. Browse by role to surface sales-specific templates, preview to confirm it's the right fit, and open it with built-in guidance ready to go. Your team can walk into discovery calls, QBRs, and account reviews with a proven structure from the start.
Ramp new reps in less time
The how-to videos built into templates give new sellers step-by-step guidance without requiring a senior rep to walk them through every session.
Scale winning practices across the team
When you find a template that works, your whole team can use it. With templates easier to find and share across workspaces, you can turn one rep's winning approach into a repeatable strategy for everyone.
Spend less time on setup, more time selling
Every click removed from the template experience is time back in your day. Hover descriptions and side-by-side Add and Preview buttons all reduce the friction between "I need a mural for this" and "Let's get started."
How to use the refined template experience
Step 1: Open the template browser
Click the Templates option in the left panel of your dashboard, or select Start from template when creating a new mural.
Step 2: Browse by role
Select Sales from the role filters to surface templates designed for your workflows.
Step 3: Preview before adding
Hover over any template card to see a short description. Click Preview to explore the full template, including any built-in how-to videos. Toggle the “Show example” button to see what the template might look like when completed. When you've found the right one, click “Use the template” to bring it into your mural.
Step 4: Watch the built-in guidance
If the template includes a video, you'll see it in the preview. These quick guides walk you through the template step by step, so you can run an effective session without prior experience.
Step 5: Customize and collaborate
Once the template is in your mural, adapt it to your specific account or deal. Invite your team or prospects to collaborate in real time, and use the structure to keep the conversation focused on outcomes.
When to use the improved template experience (with examples)
Account executives preparing for discovery calls
You have a first meeting with a new prospect tomorrow. Use the role filter to find the Discovery session template, and preview it to confirm it fits your approach. Walk into the call with a proven framework ready to surface real customer needs.
Sales managers onboarding new reps
A new seller joins your team and needs to run their first account review next week. Instead of shadowing three calls before going solo, point them to the Strategic account planning template. The pre-built template empowers them to run a credible session on their own.
Revenue teams running deal retrospectives
A major opportunity just closed. Use the Win-loss analysis template to gather the team and capture what worked, what didn't, and what to do differently next time. The template's structure keeps the conversation productive instead of devolving into pointing out mistakes or celebration without learning.
Sales leaders scaling best practices
Your top rep has a method that consistently wins deals. Have them create a template from their approach, then share it across the workspace. Now the whole team can access the same starting point, with the option to customize for their specific accounts.
Pro tips for getting the most from the template experience
- Use Preview to avoid false starts. Taking 10 seconds to preview a template can save you from adding the wrong one and starting over.
- Watch the videos even if you're experienced. The expert-advice videos often include facilitation tips that make sessions more engaging, not just instructions on what the template contains.
- Create templates from your best murals. When a session goes well, turn it into a workspace template so you can repeat the approach without rebuilding from scratch.
- Check company collections first. If your organization maintains company-wide templates, those are often customized for your specific sales process and worth exploring before the general library.
